This volume gathers keywords from the works of Max Frisch and was published in 1975 as a commemorative book for the 25th anniversary of Suhrkamp Verlag, available for only one week. Uwe Johnson's intention with this collection is revealed in his preface: he aimed to create a biography of Max Frisch from keywords, not with the usual dates of life, but with those that were realized in the engagement with both the native and the German language, in attempts at love, in injuries caused by love, in the practice of professions, in reflecting on one's own nation and in pleas to it, in visits to the Germans, in living and traveling in other countries, in the search for a personal reality, and in the relentless quest for a way for people to coexist. Uwe Johnson succeeds in capturing some of the intellectual restlessness of this writer, who articulated in Montauk the insight: Life is boring; I only have experiences when I write.
