Vulvodynia is a genital pain syndrome that occurs in 7% to 8% of women. Although it is common, most doctors face diagnostic and therapeutic challenges with this issue. The causes are multifactorial. Vulvodynia in a woman may indicate psychosexual problems related to herself, her partner, or the relationship within the partnership. Such patients require a multidisciplinary approach that includes dermatologists, psychiatrists, and psychologists. The dermatologist should communicate effectively with their patients about their sexual issues, recognize the etiology of these problems, and manage them appropriately. Effective doctor-patient communication significantly improves the patients' quality of life. In treating these disorders, a simple and effective measure is sexual education, as ignorance about the sexual response cycle and sexual response is often prevalent among the majority of these patients.
