In the development of a new product, especially in biomedical devices, the choice of material and the right design are crucial. In recent decades, researchers have sought to improve and advance the design of orthoses for the lower limbs to enhance the mobility of individuals with disabilities. Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses (KAFOs) are typically prescribed for patients with weak quadriceps. Stand-Control Orthoses (SCOs) are a better alternative to KAFOs, as they allow free knee movement during the swing phase and keep the knee fully extended during the stance phase. A prefabricated SCO has been developed that is lighter than commercially available prefabricated devices. It is off-the-shelf and compact in design. It features adjustable functions, making it suitable for a wide range of patients in terms of size (153 cm to 183 cm) and weight. Additionally, it allows for greater knee flexion during the swing phase and reduces hip migration. It helps patients walk similarly to a normal gait. This device is lightweight, structurally stable, functionally appropriate, and cosmetically acceptable for users.
