Product details

The focus of this book is on the emergence and development of public economic law in Switzerland, covering topics from currency regulation to financial services, from monetary, credit, and currency policy to economic observation and statistics, and from agricultural policy to regional policy. The authors adopt a new research approach: they identify the driving political forces (regulatory drivers) for the Federal Council and Parliament based on the messages from the Federal Council and the council protocols, and analyze these in light of the economic constitution.

The book begins with the regulations on currency order from 1850 and on measures and weights from 1851. The authors then present the emergence and sometimes fascinating development of 39 regulatory areas from regulatory, procedural, and structural policy. In their analysis, they identify the key regulatory interests and interest divergences, illustrate the different development patterns of the individual regulatory areas, and highlight the constitutional amendments and their corrections in the democratic rule of law in Switzerland. The book covers the entire time span from the founding of the modern federal state (1848) to its 175th anniversary year.

This book provides a novel addition to important aspects of public economic law: How did the rules come about that ultimately affect all actors in Switzerland? It serves as an important reference work for all professionals, particularly from the fields of law and economics, who are involved in the application, political development, or research of public economic law.
