Lucia has nothing to worry about. Her family has enough money and is respected. Lucia believes in Jesus. However, Christians are forbidden in Sicily during this time and must hide. At night, Lucia puts a wreath of lights on her head and secretly brings food to the people living in hiding. When her mother wants to marry the young woman off, Lucia resists: she wants to dedicate her life entirely to faith and to those in need. Eventually, her mother gives in. But the chosen groom is furious and reports Lucia. This is the legend of Saint Lucia of Syracuse (4th century), whose feast day is celebrated with many light traditions during Advent.
