Distributed systems today form the basis for a wide range of applications in both the workplace and the private lives of most people. Currently, with the integration of mobile technologies, the fields of application, as well as the structure and characteristics of distributed systems, are expanding. This book presents the fundamentals of distributed systems from the perspective of computer networks and distributed processing. The focus is on a compact presentation of the basic concepts and technologies, as well as an expanded view of distributed systems resulting from current developments. The various aspects are explained and illustrated in a practical context using a field of application that is consistently employed throughout the book. The examples are based on common standards and technologies such as Java, Enterprise Java Beans, etc.
