The Quaternary in the tropics

The Ice Age (Quaternary) is a period of extreme climate fluctuations that led to the growth and melting of massive ice sheets in high latitudes. Tropical deserts, savannas, rainforests, and mountainous regions also experienced equally dramatic climate changes, the traces of which have been preserved in sedimentary deposits. Understanding the tropical climate history is of utmost importance, as natural processes and, more recently, human-induced processes in the tropics and subtropics significantly influence the global climate. However, relatively few paleoclimate data are known from these regions. This book presents the climate archives of the tropics and critically discusses their paleoclimatic significance.
