Product details
Juliane Voigt connects, for the first time on a broad empirical basis, the often parallel perspectives of normative quality and user quality in journalistic quality research in her work. The aim of the book is to determine whether recipients recognize the quality of news, which other indicators they use for quality assessment, and what significance recipient variables have in the quality perception process. Media users find it rather difficult to assess individual news items based on normative quality criteria. Therefore, they often rely on the image of the medium from which the news originates as an indicator of the quality of the contribution.
The content includes:
- News quality from a normative perspective and the recipient's viewpoint
- Quality perceptions as a result of dual information processing processes
- Media brand image as a heuristic in the quality perception process
- Individual differences in quality perception ability
- Quality perceptions and overall evaluation of a news item
The target audiences are:
- Educators and students in the social sciences, particularly in communication studies (journalism and reception research)
- Media practitioners, especially journalists, publishers, and journalistic associations
The author, Juliane Voigt, worked as a research associate in the DFG project "News Quality from the Recipient's Perspective" at TU Ilmenau and the University of Hohenheim from 2010 to 2014. Since June 2014, she has been working in marketing and sales for a software company in Dresden.
