Multicore

Multicore processors with two or more cores provide a tremendous increase in the potential performance of computers across all areas, from PCs to high-performance computing systems. However, to leverage this performance for faster program execution, specialized programs and programming techniques are required that prepare multiple calculations in the form of threads for simultaneous processing on the processor cores. This book introduces all aspects of programming multicore processors, enabling software developers to create parallel programs with software threads for rapid execution on multicore processors. It covers parallel programming models, thread programming concepts, the programming environments Pthreads, Java threads, and OpenMP, as well as language constructs and newer programming approaches.
