Identity

The theme of identity is likely as old as humanity itself, and the question of who or what we are has probably preoccupied people for millennia. Starting from the many variations of the search for identity, this book explores the diverse identity and life patterns; from this, a critical reflection on the concept of identity emerges, along with the question of whether we can even speak of ourselves as a consistent, unchanging being. Philosophical and psychological contributions to the search for identity are presented, and various cultural directions and strategies such as enlightenment, education, upbringing, and depth psychology are examined in this context. In the final part of the book, several literary contributions to the search for identity are discussed - using well-known works, it illustrates how characters vigorously struggle for their identity and engage in this endeavor.
