Product details
This book examines the effects of minimum wage implementations against the backdrop of economic discrimination theories through a comparative literature analysis. This allows for the extraction of theoretical minimum wage effects from alternative labor market theories. The starting point for this is the observed discrepancy between a multitude of forecasts and the actual effects of the minimum wage introduction in Germany in 2015. In minimum wage research, critical voices have emerged regarding the primarily used model assumptions based on the neoclassical reference model. Using alternative economic discrimination theories, the analysis investigates how well their assumptions can represent the observed effects. The developed effects can partially describe the evolution of the German labor market after 2015 more accurately than previous forecasts. This provides evidence for a stronger guiding function of some discrimination theories for the German labor market compared to the neoclassical reference model.
