Product details
Trees and sidewalks, traffic lights and trash cans, walls and electrical boxes are creatively designed and transformed into art objects. Street art has long since conquered the public space of cities, becoming relevant both socially and aesthetically. In a cultural anthropological exploration, Claudia Willms investigates how subculture became a commodity within the realm of commercial art. With the postmodern turn, the relationship between subculture and mainstream also changed. The author critically examines the cultural significance of the discursive construct of cultural forms rising from the underground to the mainstream. An excursus deepens the question of what can be considered art in our society. What happens to cultural forms when they transition from everyday use to museums or galleries? How do the artists change in the process? The sprayer, artist, and curator.
