This book addresses questions related to language models like ChatGPT and understanding: Do chatbots understand what we say and mean? How can chatbots help us better understand something - a text or a concept? Do language models understand themselves - what they say and why they say it? Can we understand language models, and how? The book is aimed at technically and philosophically interested laypeople, as well as educators of all kinds, from teachers to science journalists. The author, Hans-Peter Stricker, is a trained physicist and philosopher. He lives and works in Berlin and loves discovering connections.
