Product details
Swahili is currently spoken by about 40 million people in the East African region. It is the most important lingua franca in Tanzania (even more important than English there), Kenya, and Uganda, but it is also understood in Rwanda, Burundi, and eastern Zaire. Since Swahili is learned as a first foreign language by almost all East Africans, travelers would do well to acquire at least basic knowledge of this language. This way, one can communicate in most East African countries, even though elements of local dialects and French words may mix with the Swahili vocabulary.
Learning Swahili is therefore a good way to engage with locals in relatively many countries with little effort and to approach African culture in a different way.
Kauderwelsch language guides from Reise Know-How – the handy and practical language books for travelers. Kauderwelsch language guides provide a quick introduction to foreign languages. All foreign language sentences in the book are translated not only meaningfully into German but also word for word. This facilitates understanding of the foreign language, and individual words can be quickly exchanged. The grammar is explained briefly and understandably, as far as necessary for simple language use. The dictionary at the end contains a basic vocabulary and important terms for travelers. Interesting facts about the country and its people, as well as communication peculiarities, are conveyed alongside. Kauderwelsch books are much more than typical travel phrasebooks. The goal is to be able to speak after a short time, even if not always perfectly. Those who take a little time to prepare can use Kauderwelsch to engage in more intensive contact with locals while traveling and gain experiences.
