Product details

Sporting activity has long been subject to prohibitions, regulations and prejudices in Judaism, despite this, sport has a tradition in Judaism, but the establishment of real Jewish sport lasted until the 19th century, when in Europe Jews were finally allowed to join gymnastics clubs and other sports organizations. In 1898, the first Jewish gymnastics club in Europe was founded, Bar Kochba Berlin. In 1909, the time had finally come in Austria as well, when the sports club Hakoah was founded in Vienna. In addition to the motives for the founding of a Jewish sports club in Vienna, the author would like to show the further development of Hakoah and discuss the time after the "Anschluss" of Austria to Hitler's Germany. How was the Jewish club treated under Nazi rule? What happened to the members and the assets of the Hakoah? Also the resitution proceedings after the end of the Second We.
