The contributions in this book provide a comprehensive overview and thematic depth regarding the ethical, legal, and structural conditions of Spiritual / Existential Care. It presents cross-provider or provider-specific considerations for personnel and organizational development, as well as newly developed implementation strategies for Spiritual / Existential Care in healthcare. In addition to empirical research and educational concepts, interprofessional recommendations for action are outlined as part of a general treatment standard in medicine and nursing, aimed at training staff in dealing with existential questions faced by seriously ill and dying individuals. Contributors from the German Society for Palliative Medicine, the German Hospice and Palliative Association, Diakonie Deutschland, and the Diocesan Caritas Association for the Archdiocese of Cologne have collaboratively authored this work to illuminate the multi-perspective viewpoints of the interdenominational and interfaith field of Spiritual / Existential Care. The authors share a common goal: to ensure that patients, residents, seriously ill individuals, and dying people, along with their relatives, are not left alone and unsupported in their existential questions and spiritual pain. The book "Existential / Spiritual Care Interprofessionally (SpECi)" is aimed at healthcare professionals in both paid and voluntary roles, as well as providers of healthcare facilities, payers, and health policy stakeholders, with the aim of improving the spiritual support for seriously ill and dying individuals and their families.
