Around the world, the key parameters for football matches, such as fitness, technical requirements, and others, are becoming increasingly similar. It is now rare to find completely inferior teams that are given no chances. Thus, the choice of the right game system and tactics plays a crucial role today, ensuring that the favored team meets expectations while the seemingly weaker opponent can create surprises with the right tactics and game system. The author first provides an overview of the historical development of game systems, before introducing the most commonly practiced ones today. The empirical part of the book consists of an analysis of the game systems and tactics of the four most successful teams at the 2004 European Championship: Greece and Portugal.
