Product details
Revolutionary Romances? Global Art Histories in the GDR focuses on the friendly-revolutionary relationships of the GDR with socialist brother countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. International solidarity and friendship among nations were not only geopolitically motivated concepts that shaped the GDR's foreign policy, but they also supported a multitude of transcultural contacts and became important subjects of propaganda and visual arts in the GDR. The book accompanying the exhibition of the same name presents themes and motifs of the actual and perceived "Revolutionary Romances," including ideals and icons of socialist internationalism, artistic protest against war and violence, travel images, as well as mail art and works by foreign art students in the GDR. Mathias Wagner is an art historian and curator at the Albertinum, State Art Collections Dresden. Hilke Wagner is an art historian and director of the Albertinum, State Art Collections Dresden. Kerstin Schankweiler is a professor of image studies in a global context at the Institute for Art and Music Studies at the Technical University of Dresden. Kathleen Reinhardt is an art historian and director of the Georg Kolbe Museum, Berlin.
