Jonas Mekas

The second volume of Jonas Mekas' autobiography "I Seem to Live. The New York Diaries, 1969-2011" offers a deep insight into the life of one of the most influential filmmakers and artists of the New York underground scene. Mekas, who was born in Lithuania and came to the USA after World War II, documents his experiences and encounters during a time marked by creative explosion. The volume begins in the 1970s, when the Chelsea Hotel was a central hub for artists and Mekas played a key role in founding the Anthology Film Archives. At over 90 years old, Mekas completed the editorial work on this final volume of his autobiography, which was published posthumously and stands alongside his cinematic work.
