Product details
Valie Export is one of the most radical and significant audiovisual artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. This volume understands her cinematic work as a universe of options for action, serving as a visionary prompt for perceiving and reworking a society permeated by patriarchal structures. The authors of the book have responded to the editors' invitation to reflect on individual works by Valie Export and to consider their transferability to the present, as well as their political potential. Their contributions address issues of identity and difference, as well as possibilities for communication and its refusal, the self-positioning of women, gender-nonconforming, and disabled individuals in the fields of art, film, and media, along with their reference framework—war, division, fragmentation, objectification, and alienation. Eszter Kondor is a project manager in the publications department at the Austrian Film Museum. Katharina Müller heads the research, education, and publications department of the Austrian Film Museum. Michael Loebenstein is the director of the Austrian Film Museum and has been a member of the board of the Valie Export Foundation since 2023.
