Mischka was born in Leningrad, today's St. Petersburg, into an extended Russian Jewish family. When she is seven years old, her parents tell her that they are on holiday in Lithuania. But the plane lands in Vienna. Split between the myths of her childhood and the promises of the West, Mishka has to find her own way in exile. Rabinowich is convincing not only with her sense of comedy, but also with her independent style: sober and exaggerated at the same time, she describes the vacuum between cultures into which emigration can drive you.
