Sophie Taeuber-Arp

Growing up in Appenzell, Sophie Taeuber expanded her horizons in ever new fields and became one of the great artists of the first half of the 20th century. Artisan and teacher at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts, expressionist dancer who danced poems by Hugo Ball at the Cabaret Voltaire, interior designer who converted a military building in Strasbourg into an entertainment center, pioneer of constructive art: she knew how to unite contradictions and make them productive. She confidently went her own way, also in her marriage with the painter, sculptor and lyricist Hans Arp. Based on intensive research, including previously unpublished letters, Margret Greiner draws a picture in novel-like scenes of a powerful artist, authoritative as a person, uncompromising in her aesthetic demands.
