Sonatine für Klavier und Violine G-dur op. 100

Dvorák's famous "Symphony from the New World" contains turns of phrase intended to evoke the mood of "Indian melodies" and spirituals. These include pentatonics (five-tone music) and syncopated rhythms. Delicate melodies from this sound world also blossom in his Sonatina for Violin and Piano op. 100, which he composed during his first stay in America between 1892 and 1894, making the four-movement sonatina a delightful chamber music work. Dvorák dedicated the work to his children Otilie (15 years old) and Antonín (10 years old), so it is suited to the abilities of the young pianist and violinist. However, Dvorák writes, "grown-ups, too, should entertain themselves with it as they are able". The carefully prepared Henle Urtext edition with a detailed preface on the sources is based on the autograph and the first edition published by Simrock.
