In the 1920s, the wooden house by the idyllic lake of Gross Glienicke was a holiday paradise for the Jewish Alexander family. For Elsie Alexander, the grandmother of Thomas Harding, it remained a place for the soul despite persecution and expulsion by the Nazis. Miraculously, the house still stands, having been a refuge for five families over the decades, whose fates reflect the German 20th century. After the end of the war, it was located in East German territory. The wall was built through the garden, along the lakeshore.

In the end, it stood empty, fell into disrepair, and was slated for demolition. However, Thomas Harding and his local allies ensured that this did not happen. He decided to restore the house's history.
