Product details

Six people, three days, one family reunion. David Poissant powerfully and with a keen sense of interpersonal dynamics tells the story of the rifts within a family: of emotional wounds, carefully guarded secrets, infidelity, alcoholism, homosexuality, rivalry, and jealousy, but also of the strength of reconciliation.

The Starling family is scattered across the country, but in the summer they all come together at the small house by the lake in North Carolina. Parents Lisa and Richard are nearing retirement after a long career at Cornell University and plan to sell the family summer home and move to Florida. This decision surprises their two adult sons, Michael, a salesman, and Thad, an aspiring poet. Together with their partners, the two brothers head to the place filled with so many beautiful memories for one last weekend. However, when a child drowns before Michael's eyes, as he desperately tries to save it, the carefully balanced dynamics of the family unravel. All six suddenly find themselves compelled to explore the depths of their own weaknesses and fears and confront their own life lies. The three days by the lake take an unexpected turn.
