Product details
Pernilla Stalfelt, born in 1962 in Örebro, Sweden, works as a museum educator at the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm. In 1997, she received the most prestigious Swedish award for illustrators, the Elsa Beskow Prize, for her first children's book. "And what comes next? The children's book about death" was nominated for the German Youth Literature Prize in 2001. In Sweden, Pernilla Stalfelt has aptly been described as a "shot of vitamins for children's literature."
This Swedish children's book classic (70,000 copies sold!) is finally coming to Germany. Irreverent yet full of humor, Pernilla Stalfelt explores her subject from many angles: she examines form (cones, sausages, screws), color (for example, after eating beets), and texture. This leads her to discuss diarrhea and later constipation. She compares horse apples, cow patties, and elephant dung, and some may be surprised to learn that jewelry can be made from moose droppings. She explains how toilets work and that there used to be outhouses in the countryside. Children learn that poop can become fertilizer, that in Africa it can also be used to build houses, and how important diapers are for babies. Additionally, she offers ideas for a fart theater. Her daily interactions with children make the author sensitive to their interests and needs, which is the essential foundation for such unusual book projects.
