In an article in the magazine "Atlantic Monthly" entitled "Why Women Still Can't Have It All", Anne-Marie Slaughter described her decision to leave her dream job as director of the policy planning staff at the US State Department in Washington and return to her family and her academic career at Princeton. She described the obstacles women face when trying to balance work and family. The article, the most widely read in the history of Ma gazin, sparked a passionate debate in this country too. Among other things, Slaughter was accused of betraying feminist ideals and discouraging younger women.
