For a long time, the German healthcare system was considered one of the best in the world: effective, fair, and social. However, since the 1990s, problems have been accumulating. Demographic developments, increasing performance demands, and skyrocketing drug prices threaten to financially overwhelm the system. Health policy and health insurance companies had to respond. However, their measures rarely appeared well thought out and were mostly disconnected from practical realities. General societal issues such as a shortage of skilled workers, supply chain delays, and rising energy costs exacerbate the crisis. Questionable regulations seem to follow in increasingly shorter intervals. For the author, this serves as a significant motivation, based on over 40 years of professional experience, to analyze many of these grievances and offer suggestions for improvement. Amusing anecdotes from medical everyday life can be found throughout the texts, and in a special afterword, the author reveals his personal opinion on Traditional Chinese Medicine.
