Benefits: An entertaining non-fiction book, a well-founded guide. Why finding meaning through companies doesn’t make sense and how one can still find fulfillment at work, even without meaning.

About the work: The world of work is changing, and many people feel challenged, often overwhelmed. They seek meaning and answers to the question: Why? Why do we actually work in a company we don’t really know, for a boss we don’t like, in an economy we no longer understand? Many companies promise their employees a lot of good purpose and noble goals, referred to in modern terms as "Purpose." Wouldn’t you like to work for a company that promotes the belief: "To inspire and nurture the human spirit"? Then you better prepare yourself to stand behind the counter at a coffee shop instead of heroically fighting hunger in Africa. New work concepts that promise meaning through work, with the ubiquitous "Why," promise much but can deliver little. Work becomes a substitute religion; missions, visions, and guiding principles act like modern opium for the working class. Despite new freedoms, dissatisfaction persists, and one continually chases the next, better, and above all, more meaningful job.
