Product details
The Rietholz settlement, built in 1959 in Zollikerberg in the canton of Zurich, received great recognition for its groundbreaking prefabricated construction. Designed by the renowned Zurich architectural firm H + A Hubacher, the settlement comprises 300 apartments in five different building typologies. Rietholz impressively demonstrates how differentiated and high-quality architecture can emerge through the use of standardized building elements.
The book explores the then-novel construction process, which was both admired and feared by architects of the time. Utilizing previously unpublished historical plans and current photographs, the project history is revealed over the long term, and the lives of the residents are made visible. Special attention is given to the pioneering role of Annemarie Hubacher-Constam, who, as the design architect of the firm and chief architect of the second Swiss Exhibition for Women's Work in 1958, is considered one of the trailblazers in the profession in Switzerland.
