Sometimes Mia imagines that her illness is an enviable superpower. But in fact, it's quite problematic in everyday life if you can't feel pain and run blindly into all dangers. Mia has known this at least since the night she lost her mother. The haunting memory of it is also her biggest secret. At least until she meets Jake, who is fighting his own grief at Mia's father's gym. He's the one she can confide in, and he too tells her about the darker side of his life. Even though the two are so damn different, they feel for the first time that safety might be more than a nasty illusion.
