Product details

Karate, or more accurately Karate-Dô, is a martial art with countless facets. Karate can captivate a person for a lifetime and continually offer something new. The pursuit of 'higher and faster' eventually fades (usually due to age), but the expansion of understanding and perfection never ends. In addition to the publicly known competitions in Kata (precisely defined sequences of techniques and movements) and Kumite (free sparring), there are many other areas in Karate, one of which is Kata-Bunkai. In Bunkai, the techniques are broken down against the 'imaginary' opponents of the Kata and traced back to the underlying real combat techniques. Bunkai is an essential tool for understanding and learning the fighting behavior of a Karate style, and it has long been part of the examination regulations of the German Karate Federation. In this second volume of their teaching and practice work, the authors explain the advanced Katas Tekki Shodan, Bassai Dai, and Jion. A total of 1,061 photos vividly and thoroughly illustrate each phase of these three Katas and their Bunkai applications. This carefully crafted and lovingly made first German-language textbook on this unfortunately still very neglected topic offers a wealth of inspiration for the many Karate students (and also for the instructors) for self-study. It is clearly structured, non-dogmatic, and open to further individual work, providing an excellent foundation for understanding the Kata. In a word: Highly recommended!.
