Shanghai Dream

Berlin, 1938: Shocked by the events of Kristallnacht, Bernhard and his wife Illo decide to leave Germany and go into exile like thousands of other Jews. The regime had made it impossible for them to live out their passion for cinema, so it was not difficult for them to leave. The destination of their journey: Shanghai, that enigmatic and lively city on the other side of the world. But fate, as so often, has other plans... "Shanghai Dream" opens up a lesser-known perspective on the Jewish exodus during the Third Reich. Instead of the USA, for which a visa was required, China is the hopeful destination here. However, the creative team of Thirault and Miguel bear witness in impressive images that the horrors of National Socialism also reached as far as the Far East.
