Hoppe

Felicitas Hoppe is considered one of the smartest contemporary authors. Hoppe is the proof. "Hoppe" is not an autobiography, but rather Hoppe's dream biography, in which she tells the story of another Hoppe: a Canadian childhood on thin ice, an Australian youth just before the desert, travels across the sea, and a flight to America. Hoppe's life and travel narrative transforms into a tragicomic artist's novel, guiding us through the world and back to the German province, where her desired family is still waiting for her. It is a story about unfulfilled wishes, failed marriages, and halved careers. And about the undeniable joy of being a child of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. This is a reason for me to do a backflip out of joy. Hoppe does the same with her language.
