So far, controversial findings have emerged regarding sex differences in intra- and interhemispheric coherence. One explanation could be the influence of sex hormones, especially testosterone. To test this influence, the EEG of women with particularly high, moderate, or low prenatal testosterone exposure was measured in two sessions. During the EEG measurements, adult testosterone levels were collected. For the prenatal testosterone concentration, no influence on coherence could be demonstrated, whereas for the adult testosterone level, a significant influence on coherence was found. Females with high testosterone levels showed higher intra- and interhemispheric coherence than females with low adult testosterone levels. Therefore, a high adult testosterone level seems to lead to higher synchrony in the active in women.
