Iconographic images of Berlin are well-known in various tones, but Sarah Eick achieves the remarkable feat of evoking admiration even from long-time Berliners who have seen many photographs of their hometown: her photos undoubtedly depict Berlin motifs, yet they are also works of great, translocal, abstract-poetic quality. The familiar buildings and city views appear strangely contextless, almost like UFOs. Eick grants them a great dignity without any form of historicizing or nostalgic pathos. Even a snack bar looks majestic in her eyes.
