With the fact established by Hilla and Bernd Becher that reality is reintroduced into art as a documentary representation, magical realism emerges. Through his images of the half-timbered houses in the Siegen industrial area, Thomas Kellner reminds us of the beauty of the everyday that surrounds us yet is so often overlooked. Drawing on the typology of the Bechers, Thomas Kellner presents here his 2021 images of half-timbered houses, which captivate with color refraction and artful blurriness of the background. These houses, which have now become commonplace in the region, reveal themselves here with their slate-covered, detailed facades and well-maintained exteriors as true works of art. The Siegen photographer Thomas Kellner shows us a part of the history of his region through the lens of his camera. He has previously worked on architecture and has already captivated countless people internationally.
