Especially people who lack the words for their feelings communicate through images to themselves and to others. But what do the randomly appearing shapes, colors, symbols, and traces of movement represent? What messages do they convey? Alexandra Glück, based on her art therapeutic observations, sees fragments of a coherent narrative about self-discovery and identity in these images. Through the development of their skills and potentials, each person becomes a unique, adult individual. The psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung described this process as individuation. In art therapy, this process can indeed be made visible. Against this backdrop, the author demonstrates the connections between the painted image and the painter's current life situation. This depth psychological knowledge can assist in the practice of art therapy, helping individuals.
