From scientific discoveries to animistic beliefs, from the fear of genetic changes to political narratives, from aversion to fascination - an inexhaustible number of stories are tied to plants, revealing our innermost desires and fears. This book explores human projections and representations of the plant world, showcasing the interiority, intelligence, and expressive capabilities of plants. This is particularly evidenced through photographic and cinematic images. The publication traces the visual history of plants, where art, technology, and sciences intersect from the mid-19th century to the present. Its narrative logic resembles that of a science fiction novel, as it begins in a reliable, recognizable world before gradually leading us into more uncertain territories. It does not follow a chronological order but is guided by two fundamental concepts: science and fiction. The book features works by over 30 artists from various times and places. The exhibition, curated by Clothilde Morette and Victoria Aresheva, includes works by Anna Atkins, Karl Blossfeldt, Elspeth Diederix, Sam Falls, Joan Fontcuberta, Stephen Gill, Jochen Lempert, Angelica Mesiti, Agnieszka Polska, and Anais Tondeur, among others.
