Nevertheless it is the secret national animal of Switzerland. It is a tourist attraction and advertising medium for chocolate or healthy milk. But cow is not cow. There are large, small, colourful, spotted, speckled, white, brown, grey and black. Brown cattle are widespread and the Einsiedeln Monastery was already known for breeding them a thousand years ago. The booklet is a homage to the most popular Swiss breed. It is also a thank-you to all keepers, for whom cows and cattle are not just an economic factor, but beings whom they treat with respect and empathy.
