Some secrets are so great that we must hide them not only from the world but also from ourselves. It begins as a love story. In New York in the early 1970s, Lili and Duke become a couple: she, the daughter of a white intellectual family, raised with every opportunity but choosing to work as a nurse, and he, the young black man from the South. They live a love that accepts devastating destruction yet seems to forgive everything. As Duke rises to become a celebrated wine expert, the dreamy Lili is discovered as a model. Their shared life quickly turns into a rapid rollercoaster of possibilities, temptations, and setbacks. However, their love seems unbreakable. While Duke recognizes every little facet of a special wine, he often misses the underlying thoughts.
