Product details

A plea for understanding between religions. Jaspers engaged with the belief in revelation very early on. The belief in revelation formed the counterpart against which he became aware of what he himself called philosophical faith: a belief in transcendence beyond confessional ties, which, it was hoped, could establish peace between religions without dissolving established religious bonds. Nevertheless, it would take decades for Jaspers to address the relationship between philosophical faith and belief in revelation in three relevant publications. Volume 13 of the KJG contains as its central text the late work 'Philosophical Faith in the Face of Revelation' (1962/63). Accompanying it are the contribution to the festschrift 'Philosophical Faith in the Face of Christian Revelation' (1960), from which the aforementioned book emerged, as well as the conversation 'Philosophy and Belief in Revelation' conducted with Heinz Zahrnt (1963). Bernd Weidmann, born in 1965, studied philosophy, German studies, and English studies in Heidelberg, and has been a research associate at the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences since 2012. He has written a dissertation and numerous other publications on Jaspers.
