In the food sector in particular, there are numerous standards in Switzerland that restrict the use of product designations for certain products. The product names for foodstuffs must characterize them and be based on their nature and the raw materials used for their production. Thus, anyone communicating factually about a product previously had to adhere to these restrictions. On July 1, 2010, Switzerland unilaterally introduced the Cassis de Dijon principle with the revision of the THG. This means that, in principle, all products that have been lawfully placed on the market in an EC or EEA state will be approved in Switzerland.
