Schulwahl und Schulwettbewerb im dualen System

Kathrin Breuing investigates the effects of the free school choice introduced in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2008 within the dual education system as part of an empirical study. Starting from an interdisciplinary model for free vocational school choice, the author reconstructs the legislative process of this unique educational reform in Germany and explores, through interviews and surveys, the assessments of vocational education experts as well as the reactions of training companies and vocational schools. The focus of the study is on the question of what opportunities and risks arise from a school choice constellation influenced by entrepreneurial (rather than parental) interests, and what tensions emerge in light of the competition-oriented approach fostered by the opening of school districts within the dual system. The design of the study follows a multi-perspective approach and combines qualitative and quantitative research methods.
