These illuminate the personal and intellectual relationship of the former couple and also shed light on contemporaries such as Walter Benjamin, Theodor W. Adorno, and Martin Heidegger. Last but not least, the volume documents the expulsion, flight, and emigration of two Jewish intellectuals from Germany. "Are saved living 317 West 95 = Hannah": This telegram was sent by Hannah Arendt in May 1941 from New York to her ex-husband in Hollywood. Günther Anders, who had already emigrated to the USA in 1936, had supported Arendt and her family in their escape from Europe with money transfers and the necessary entry documents. The couple's marriage was ended by mail in 1937.
