For the first time, a teaching resource is available on the German market that provides direct access to a variant of spoken Arabic, which is also commonly written in social media today. This teaching material focuses on the Syrian dialect of the capital, Damascus, which is very similar to the dialects spoken in Jordan, Palestine, and Lebanon. 'Akid' is aimed at anyone who interacts with Arabic speakers and wants to learn their colloquial language, or is simply curious about the language, as well as educators who offer courses in Arabic colloquial language. The twelve lessons, featuring images, drawings, and audio files, focus on typical everyday situations. In addition to teaching a basic vocabulary and fundamental grammar, each lesson includes cultural or linguistic historical information that provides cultural background knowledge. The use of a transcription that is easily understandable for Germans helps overcome the initial hurdle of learning a new script and enables quick progress. The learning objective is to reach level A1 of the European Reference Framework. Audio recordings are available for download as mp3 files.
