Despite the continuously decreasing number of cases, polytrauma remains the leading cause of death among those under 40. Only one in four severely injured patients arrives alive at the hospital. The first phase of treatment for patients in the hospital, the shock room phase, places the highest demands on the treating physicians as well as on the structure and organization of the hospital. For an optimal outcome, this sensitive treatment phase is constantly subject to discussions about improvements. In particular, the integration of modern diagnostic options plays a significant role here. Is the integration of CT examinations into shock room management sensible? Should there be a paradigm shift from the conventional X-ray protocol to the fully integrated whole-body spiral CT in the shock room management of polytraumatized patients?.
