Schneeweisschen und Rosenrot

Jacob Grimm was born in 1785 in Hanau. He studied in Marburg and Paris. The Germanist worked as a professor in Göttingen but was dismissed from his position as a co-author of the political protest of the Göttingen Seven. In 1841, the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV invited him and his brother Wilhelm Karl Grimm (1786-1863) to become members of the Academy of Sciences in Berlin. With his works "Deutsche Grammatik" and "Geschichte der deutschen Sprache," based on extensive source research, Jacob Grimm laid the foundation for German studies. He edited the first volumes of the "Deutsches Wörterbuch," which he and Wilhelm Grimm established. Together with his brother and K. Lachmann, Jacob Grimm is considered the true founder of German philology. Jacob Ludwig Carl and Wilhelm Karl Grimm are the renowned editors of "Kinder- und Hausmärchen." Jacob Grimm died in 1863 in Berlin.
