A choice Appenzeller and early modern printmaking. The St. Gallen artist Carl August Liner Senior (1871-1946) is still today a highly regarded painter of local folk art and traditions in his chosen home of Appenzell and Eastern Switzerland. It may be less known that he was once an important representative of early modern printmaking in Switzerland. His printmaking work is relatively small in relation to his overall oeuvre, yet it vividly demonstrates that his art is closely connected to modern ideas. However, he did not break with the past as radically as was the case with the artistic avant-garde. The publication is released on the occasion of an exhibition that will be shown at HVM St. Gallen starting in November 2018.
