The story of the sleepless Valentina tells of a close-knit village community, of old love, new temptation, and criminal machinations, all set against the enchanting backdrop of Seelisberg.
Just before her sixtieth birthday, Valentina sees no other option but to consult a psychiatrist due to her chronic insomnia. Dr. Habermann recommends a bit more selfishness, coupled with a change of scenery, after their first meeting. It is thanks to Emily, Valentina's thirteen-year-old granddaughter, that she finds both in Seelisberg, not far from her home in Lucerne. In the small village along the Way of Switzerland, Valentina now takes care of a dog, a cat, and an African grey parrot as a housesitter, integrates surprisingly quickly into the village community, experiences one surprise visit after another, gets involved in a criminal case, and ultimately discovers far more than she dared to hope for. In the end, even – spoiler alert! – her sleep.
"And even if it's just a few small thoughts we send out into the world: who knows if something great won't be triggered by them?"
